Fans are eagerly waiting to grind, trick and slide some gnarly lines into the Skate series’ latest installment, Skate.
It’s been 15 years since the release of Skate 3 and the iconic franchise is making a highly anticipated comeback. The original game, released in 2007, was praised for its innovative trick system based on the functionality of the right-analog stick. On its release, Skate outsold Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater as Electronic Arts (EA) had redefined the ‘skateboard video game’ with its graphics, technicality and soundtrack.
The new game in the franchise will take place in the fictional world, San Vansterdam. As confirmed in ‘The Grind Vol 1’, the game will be free to play, but will have seasonal content and a skate.Pass available for purchase. The game will not have an offline mode, with the team referring to it as a “massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox.”
At the end of July 2025, over one million playtesters were invited to explore “San Van” and throw down some awesome tricks and test the mechanics of the game. To date, Early Access is due to launch at the end of summer 2025. But EA will announce the full details of the game in September.
EA has been developing Skate. for four years and the latest update published in ‘The Grind Vol 5’ has announced some major news about music and sound! It has been confirmed that the soundtrack at launch will have over 100 songs and will focus on emerging artists, with a few deep cuts which the team hopes will “help you discover music you may not have heard.” There will be a music player function in-game, where you’ll be able to choose from three playlists. You can also make your own personal playlists by liking any of the tracks. Or if you want a challenge; skating around San Van you’ll discover new music across many skate spots.
Although the idea of playlists isn’t revolutionary for gaming, for example, the Forza Horizon series has an optional radio system with different stations. Skate. Is attempting to bring skateboarding culture to life through music. Some artists confirmed on the soundtrack include Little Simz, Denzel Curry, and MF Doom. Expect the soundtrack to hit Spotify soon!
Skate. will be released on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series One, S & X and PC.
